About Eric Rasmussen

Born in Southern California, raised in Colorado, learned about life living in Yosemite National Park, Eric Rasmussen is currently based on the shores of beautiful South Lake Tahoe. His lust for adventure has so far taken him on an incredible journey through life. From being a Yosemite climbing rescue team member for many years, to climbing big wall first ascents in Yosemite and Zion, to ski mountaineering first descents down the steep couloirs of Yosemite Valley, Eric has always had a love for the mountains. He was a professional mountain bike racer attaining the World Cup level, and he also became a pro-class off-road motorcycle racer, competing in the prestigious Baja 1000 and several Baja 500s. Having knowledge of these skills at a high level gives Eric the advantage and ability to access terrain and locations that most photographers cannot. As a boy growing up in Colorado, Eric's love for photography began as he spent many hours in his dad's dark room watching him develop and print black and white film. Later, Eric went on to study photography in college (film, pre-digital age) before moving to Yosemite Valley to start a rock climbing/rescue "career". Throughout the years Eric has used his photography, not really thinking of it becoming a career, but merely a tool to share his many adventures with friends and family. But eventually photography became the main focus of all of his wild adventures. Eric has always been drawn to the High Sierra and the Southwest, exploring deep in the deserts and high in the peaks of the Sierras, chasing unique light and shadows in these stunning and surreal landscapes. Landscape photography is Eric's passion, but he enjoys all aspects of shooting, including action sport, art portrait, wedding, studio, light painting, and astro-photography. Most photographers focus on one type of photography to maximize their success, but for Eric, just one focus would then become work and it would lose its spark. Always exploring and experimenting with new ideas and types of photography makes picking up that camera a fresh and exciting experience every time. The next adventure seems always to be just around the corner for Eric. Eric's work has appeared in many publications, catalogs, and online content, including Men's Journal, Powder, Alpinist, Backcountry, Prana, Dirt Bike, Michelin, Fox, Troy Lee Designs, Tahoe Quarterly, Fighters Only, Homes and Land, and others.
